Colowyo C-1981-019
18 March 2009
Pg 7/7
Air Resource Protection: - The haul roads in the East Pit, West Pit and South Taylor Pit
were all dry at the time of the inspection. There was some dust coming from the
roads but the operator was running a water truck.
Excess Spoil: - The current active dump area for the South Taylor Pit is the C-C'
underdrain area of the East Taylor fill. The overburden is coming from the B2-Seam
overburden. The fill has advanced to almost the crusher bench (which will be
relocated). The piles of spoil that had been dumped in the bottom of the fill area
have now been covered as the pile has advanced. The current fill area is in two
separate lifts. One of the lifts has reached its maximum height and the other lift is
approximately 50-feet below its maximum height. The fill appeared to be stable at
the time of the inspection.
- All of the snow has melted off of the Streeter Fill. The fill was well vegetated and
appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. As with the rest of the
reclamation on the site, the vegetation on the fill was already beginning to turn
green. No erosional features were noted on the fill from the runoff from the
snowmelt. This fill has undergone a Phase II Bond Release and quarterly inspections
have been terminated.
- The West Pit Fill was well vegetated and stable at the time of the inspection. The
vegetation is already starting to turn green. All of the snow has melted off of the West
Pit Fill and there were no erosional problems noted as a result of the runoff from the
snowmelt. This fill has undergone a Phase II Bond Release and quarterly inspections
have been terminated.
- The Section 16 Fill remains inaccessible.
Availability of Records: - All of the necessary records were available in the records
room in the office building. Please see the Availability of Records form at the end of
this report for more detailed information.
This completes the 18 March 2009 inspection report for the Colowyo Mine.
