Support equipment may need to come on site on an as-needed basis. Watering of the pit travel
area and the mine access road will be accomplished using the water truck, which will have a
minimum of a 2,000 gallon tank. The stock pond south of Mining Area 2 is used to fill the water
truck from a small pump. Mag Chloride will be used for dust suppression on the main haul road.
There will be no blasting as part of this operation.
The operator commits to clearly marking the permit boundary.
Only one main road will be present in the permit area, running north through the center of the
permit area. The road will be 24' wide. This road will access Highway 160. There will also be
minor roads leading to the stockpiles.
4. Tonsoil. Overburden Handlins and Waste Fines
Topsoil will be salvaged from all Mining Areas. The expected topsoil thickness is approximately
8-14 inches. Gravel will be mined and taken to the crusher/screener by loader or truck. Mining
will be conducted in eight phases, which minimizes disturbed area and allows the landowner to
continue to irrigate the southern portions of the permit area while the northern areas are mined.
Mining Area 1 will be mined first because it has the least amount of overburden and it is furthest
from the community. Mining Area 1 will become the processing area for the entire mine life. The
crushing/screening, asphalt plant and washing operations will be located in this area.
While mining in Mining Areas 1, 2 and 3, all topsoil will be stockpiled for use in reclamation. In
Mining Areas 1 and 2 the overburden will also be stockpiled. All other mining areas topsoil and
overburden will be directly placed on previously excavated areas. These stockpiles will be
located along the highway and the property line to the east. The stockpiles will reduce the noise
and visual impacts to the community. Mining will proceed in order from 1 to 8 in the mining
areas. Portions of the mining haul road will stay disturbed until mining is complete, where it will
then be reclaimed. Mining Areas 1 and 8 will require approximately 86,000 cy of backfill
material to reach the level shown in the reclamation plan. This material will come from the
Simmons Pit, March 2009 D-5
