Nuvemco, LLC's Monogram Mine M-1978-222UG
Response to Preliminary Adequacy Review
March 10, 2009
the plan and increase depth of levels removed incrementally. The last paragraph of page D-2 in
the reclamation section should be modified as follows:
The surface ore body is estimated to cover approximately one acre and range from 2 to 15 feet
thick. Samples of the ore rock and the cap rock (from area shown in Photograph 3) were
submitted to Evergreen Analytical for chemical analyses which are included as Appendix B.
Only small sections about 30 feet by 30 ft by 5 feet deep will be mined at a time, which is 4,500
cubic feet or about 320 tons. Thus, removing waste rock and breaking up a section of ore is
estimated to take about two weeks. Contract ore trucks will be called as needed to ship the ore.
Assuming about 10,000 tons of ore in place at the Monogram Mine, ore removal could require
about three years. With some reclamation occurring concurrently (i.e. waste rock replaced in
mined out areas), the removal of ore and restoration of the Monogram Mine area could be
accomplished within six months after the mining is complete. Recognizing weather delays and
potential equipment failures, plus other unknown factors, Nuvemco estimates about 42 months
for the completion of the Monogram Mine surface mining operation.
Similarly, the last paragraph of page E-2 in the reclamation section should be modified as
follows:
"Reclamation of the exploration and development efforts will be complete within six months of
termination of mining efforts. In the event that further underground mining is warranted, a
technical revision will be prepared and include revised reclamation costs and timetables."
No details are given in regard to the ore bin area. The area should be isolated fi-orn all unauthorized vehicles.
It is understood that the bins have stonnwater controls for 100% retention. However truck loading and other ore
handling activities require that the area have zero run-off w well. Please submit detailed plans noting what
activities will take place, how big of an area will be designated for these activities and stotmwater controls
specific to this area.
As described previously, a new Map C-2(b) has been drawn and three photographs are included
illustrating the ore bin location and planned construction of berms and ore bins and low water
crossing. The staging area has a gentle northeastern slope and will be utilized for the office and
storage units, vehicle and equipment parking, and the ore bins. This 0.74 acre area will have an
earthen berm surrounding it to prevent run-on and runoff with a detention pond designed to hold
runoff minimizing siltation and erosion. This detention pond will have a native rock rip-rap
armored overflow to control major storm run-off. Entry by ore trucks and vehicles will be across
a broadened ramp to keep the berm continuous and intact. A low water crossing at the start of
the ore haulage road up to the Monogram Knob mining area will control road ditch flows and
direct runoff towards the natural drainage below the detention pond.
A second full containment berm will be constructed surrounding the ore bin and ore truck
loading area. Signage will note that access is for authorized vehicles only. Ore bins as shown on
Map C-1 are 40 feet by 35 feet including the entry apron. The loading area is 40 feet by 50 feet
resulting in a total containment of 3,400 square feet. A sump area will be constructed at the west
end of the bins with prefabricated vessels for containment of any runoff from this area. This
interior berm will surround about 0.08 acres in size and have zero runoff which reduces the
storm water contribution to the outer staging area berm.
4
