A review of the application has revealed a few issues and clarifications to address.
1) Please submit to this office a map that clearly displays and labels the permit boundary. The map that was
submitted February 24, 2009 is a good figure that clearly displays current overall disturbance but it is
difficult to determine whether or not off site disturbance has occurred along the northern boundary.
2) The application cover letter it states "any areas dug steeper than 3H:1V will be backfilled to 311: IV with
overburden and excess material". Please provide an estimate of the amount of material that will be
needed for backfill of the current areas steeper than 3H:1 V and the amount of material available on site
that can be used for backfilling the highwall.
The decision date for this application has been set for March 26, 2009 provided all issues have been addressed.
To allow adequate time for staff review the requested information must be received by March 23, 2009. If the
requested information is not received by March 23, 2009, the applicant should request an extension of the
decision date or the application may be denied.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, Grand
Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, telephone no. 970.241.2042.
Sincerely,
Travis Marshall
Environmental Protection Specialist
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction Durango Active and Inactive Mines
