measured using a double sampling procedure of estimates adjusted by actual values from
representative samples. Three of the ten quadrates within each reclaimed well pad were
estimated then clipped to derive an actual green weight correction factor used to adjust estimated
green weights. Clipped samples were oven dried to obtain an air dry weight correction factor for
green weights. Ground cover values were made from visual observations of cover type within
each quadrate and reported as a percentage of total ground cover.
Biomass production, species composition and ground cover data for each site is summarized
from the data presented in the appendices for each reclaimed well pad, Table A2 for pad 1 A-41-1I,
Table A3 for pad 3A-4H and Table A4 for pad 4-311. The ground cover data in these tables are
shown by plant species or cover type. The annual above-ground vegetation biomass production is
shown for each plant species encountered at each site. The species composition data is shown for
each plant species encountered and determined by each species contribution to total biomass
production for that particular site. The scientific and common names of the plant species
encountered within each well pad site are also presented in these tables.
Well Pad Site 1A-4HI: The ground cover data in Table 4 is summarized by class of vegetation
and cover type from data presented by plant species or cover type in Appendix Table A2. The
production data presented in Table 5 is summarized from the annual above-ground vegetation
biomass production for each plant species as shown in Appendix Table A2. The species
composition data presented in Table 6 is summarized by class of vegetation from the percent
composition of each plant species encountered as determined by each species contribution to
total biomass production as shown in Appendix Table A2.
The following tables compare the data collected in 2008 for well pad site 1 A-4HI to data
collected from previous years as well as data collected in 2008 from nearby native rangelands.
Table 4 - Reclaimed Well Pad 1A-4HI Ground Cover (%),
July 2008
Cover Type 2007 2008 2008 Native
Ran eland Change
2007 to 2008 Difference
2008 w/ Native
Perennial Grasses 24.5 34.7 27.70 +29% +20%
Perennial Forbs 5.3 14.9 6.65 +64% +55%
Annual Grasses 1.4 0.0 1.40 - 100 % - 100 %
Weed Forbs 14.3 1.0 0.75 -93% +25%
Shrubs 9.5 8.7 19.80 -8% -56%
Moss/Lichens 0.0 0.0 9.40 no change no change
Vegetative Litter 4.0 12.1 13.15 +67% -8%
Bare Ground 35.4 22.9 21.15 -35% +80/(
Rock 5.6 5.7 0.00 +2%
n/a
1
2008 Annual Report 17 of 28
