------
6.0 Land' Disturbance and Reclamation
6.1 Summary of 2008 Disturbance
The total disturbed acres were updated during the 2008 update of the reclamation bond calculation
by Colorado Department of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. Table 6-1 lists the disturbed acres.
Table 6-1- Total Disturbed Acres - 2008
Process Area: Acres:
Process Ponds & Facilities 8
Plant Process Area 6.2
Well Field:
•
ell Pads 11.4
Roads and Compacted Areas 18.7
Total Facili Disturbance: 44.3
62 Regulatory Compliance
6.2.1 Regulatory Activity
In 2008, Technical Revisions (TR) were submitted, and approved, for 7H-1V, 10H-C, 101-1-I,
l OH-R, 11 H-I and 11 H-R .
6.3 Reclamation Activity
6.3.1 Regrading
Approximately 6 acres of disturbed ground was regarded in 2008, primarily around wells 5H-,
6H, 7H, 5H-1V, and 7H-1V.
6.3.2 Seeding
Seed was applied to approximately 6 acres of disturbed ground, while and additional 25 acres were
reseeded, either to enhance revegetation, or to assist in eliminating cheat grass.
6.3.3 Reclamation Fencing
Repair and maintenance was performed on all existing fences. Fencing is utilized to protect
reclamation during establishment and to keep livestock out of the mud pits.
6.3.4 Precipitation
Precipitation gauges are located near the P/A injection well 90-5 (tipping gauge) and near
monitoring well EX-2 (V-gauge). Based on perennial vegetation, which is an indicator of long-term
precipitation, the "normal" precipitation for the NSI site is 12-14 inches for the calendar year. The
distribution of precipitation is important for reclamation.
The following table provides a composite of precipitation from the two gauges at NSI mine site:
2008 Annual Report 13 of 28
