A long, narrow (30" wide) excavation was opened for installation of the slurry
wall, extending approximately 350 feet to the west. The slurry wall trench
excavation is shored by keeping the trench completely filled with bentonite slurry
(drilling mud). Some gasoline flowed to the west in the excavation mixing with
slurry mud. A shallow trench was excavated to the east of the pipeline between
the quarry ponds and the St. Wain River. The slurry in the excavation west of
the pipeline was displaced into the trench east of the pipeline which is referred to
as the "Slurry Holding Trench" (SHT). The slurry wall excavation was backfilled
using the material excavated from the trench.
Current site use.
The site is being developed for residential home construction. The area of the
release is planned for recreational usage (green belt, boating, and fishing) and
surface water storage.
2
