Applegate
Group, inc.
WATER RESOURCE ADVISORS FOR THE WEST
Memorandum
Date: January 23, 2008
To: File
From: Lisa Farmer
Subject: Parkdale Quarry DRMS Amendment - Army Corps of Engineers
File No. 05-183
On October 24, 2007, Anita Culp with the Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) was contacted via email to identify their
jurisdictional status of Tallahassee Creek and the three drainages within the granite quarry. The email included two maps
used for the Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety permit amendment: the Existing Conditions Map and the Mining
Plan Map. The maps illustrated the permit boundary, the proposed limits of disturbance and the proposed limits of mining.
Anita was informed that the only movement within the Creek area would be some traffic of mining equipment which will
utilize the bridge that is already in place.
A follow up phone call from Anita took place on October 25, 2007. She informed us that from the USGS quad map the
drainages through the quarry appear to be ephemeral and are therefore not within the jurisdiction of the Corps. The 100-ft
setback for mining from the southern toe of Tallahassee Creek was noted for the sand and gravel operation and considered
adequate.
1499 West 120t` Avenue, Suite 200 9 Denver, Colorado 80234-2728 • (303) 452-6611 • Fax: (303) 452-2759
