currently the A and G pit mines the H coal seam while the F and Z pits mine the I seam. H pit
mined the G seam. The 3rd White Sandstone (G coal and sandstone below) and 2nd White
Sandstone (F coal and sandstone below) are monitored at four locations. The Lewis Shale is
monitored at one location. The Johnson and Pyeatt Gulch alluvial aquifers are monitored at one
site in each of these drainages while the Flume Gulch alluvium is monitored at two locations. The
2007 hydrologic monitoring report, Hydro-Engineering, LLC (2008), presents the discussion of the
monitoring results through 2007. The table on the pull-out index provides basic well data for all
wells monitored in 2008. Wells 81-03A, GE-1, GE-2, GE-3, GLUX-1 and GP-6 were not required
to be monitored after the first half of 2006.
Springs at Trapper Mine were monitored during 2008 in accordance with the approved
monitoring plan. Springs with measured flows of greater than 5 gpm were sampled for full suite
water quality parameters. Results of the 2008 spring monitoring are presented in Table B-2 mi
Appendix B.
Table 1-1 (page 1-4) presents the pit and well dewatering data and volume of water used
for dust depression for Trapper Mine for 2008. This data shows that, on an average, approximately
15.8 gpm was pumped from the Trapper Mine pits during 2008. Well dewatering was started in
September of 2002 in the G pit. The average well pumping rate for 2008 was 32.4 gpm for the G
pit well dewatering. This data is useful in interpreting water-level changes and consumptive use.
Surface-water flow and quality were monitored at only Flume Gulch (S-1), Johnson, No
Name, East Pyeatt, West Pyeatt, Far East Buzzard, Horse, Middle Flume and East Middle Flume
drainages during 2008. The Johnson, No Name, Coyote, Ute, Middle Pyeatt, East Pyeatt, Deer,
West Pyeatt, Far East Buzzard, Grouse, Sage, Oak, Horse, West Flume, Middle Flume, East Middle
Flume, Deal Gulch, East Flume and West Horse Gulch drainages are Trapper's NPDES discharge
Trapper Mining Company 1-2
2008 Annual Report
