Additional Sheets
2009 Annual Report
Miller Gravel Pit
M-1982-112
Schmidt Construction Company
Anniversary Date: March 11
Overview of Permit Year: During the 2008/2009 operating year all of the mining activity occurred in the
same area as the activity in the previous year. The Special Use Permit was approved by Elbert County.
Annual Report Maps: There is one annual report map provided this year that is essentially the same as last
year's map as no changes occurred that would warrant changing the annual report map.
Affected Lands: No increase in the amount of affected land occurred in the last year. Early in the permit year,
activity continued but the demand for product continued to decline. By October there was essentially no
demand for product from this operation and what little demand was present was supplied from other
operations. This operation was essentially closed for the winter, but may reopen later in the spring or summer if
demand increases. This decline in activity was solely the result of the depressed economy.
Revegetation: No additional reclamation work was done in the last year as everything is caught up.
Work Anticipated in 2009/2010: If mining resumes it is likely the mine will be expanded somewhat
southward, mostly within the original permit area. It is possible, but not very likely, that the new amendment
area will be entered in the next year. What happens in the next year is completely dependent on whether the
economy recovers to the point that there is sufficient demand that the operation can be reopened. In effect, it is
a matter of a day to day consideration. Another scenario is that the operation will be opened and closed
intermittently to supply the needs for any special projects.
Bonding: This operation is covered under a self bonding arrangement.
Schmidt Construction 2009 Annual Report M-1988-112 Miller Gravel Pit Page 1 of 1
