Jq
III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
General Comments
This was an aerial inspection of the Seneca II-W Mine. The site was flown on the morning of 3/11/09, and Harry
Ranney of the Division took 13 oblique and near vertical digital image photos. The images were viewed by Dan
Mathews of the Division on 3/12/09. The images covered most portions of the mine disturbed areas. Solid snow
cover throughout the mine site and adjacent areas precluded detailed observations. The mine entrance road to
the shop area had been recently maintained, but other roads in the permit area were snowed over. Sediment
ponds were iced over and snow covered. No problems were evident, and there was no evidence of recent
activity with the exception of the shop area and mine entrance road.
The mine has been largely reclaimed, with the exception of the shop area and entrance road.
Remediation of small slide areas expressed last year in the lower Pond 016 watershed is to be undertaken in
2009. Geotechnical investigations were initiated in 2008. These areas were under snow cover and current
ground conditions were not observable.
3
