Exhibit I & J - Soils & Vegetation Information
Following are the soils and vegetation exhibits from the original permit. Shortly
before Varra Companies, Inc. acquired the permit in October 1999, the entire site
has been affected to the maximum practical extent.
The majority of soils originally identified are now in stockpiles. Only a minor
component of soils remain in-situ (refer to Exhibit L - Durham Stockpile
Measurements). The balance of soil volume stockpile to affected land requiring re-
soiling shows a surplus of stockpiled soil resources. Additional information on the
status of soils at the time of the Amendment, is detailed under Exhibit L - Soil
Demand and Re-soiling of Affected Lands.
While a portion (44.66± acres)of the lands remain unaffected by operations prior to
the Amendment, the balance of lands are in various states of use as identified on
Exhibit C - Pre-Mine and Mining Plan Map. Of the 185.21± acres, 81.35± acres
will require re-vegetation utilizing the previously approved seed mixture.
Additional information on re-vegetation of affected lands is identified under
Exhibit L - Establishment of Vegetation over Affected Lands; and Exhibit L -
Addendum C: Re-vegetation Seed Mixture Costs.
The seed mixture is modified with the inclusion of a wheatxwheatgrass sterile
hybrid that will function like mulch in stabilizing the site, minimizing competition
from weeds, while enhancing the establishment and growth of selected species.
The use of this species as a mulch substitute is well established with the Division
through its approval in previous submittals. The species and rate are included in
the Seed Mix table previously referenced.
Varra Companies, Inc.
