Flatirons Surveying, Inc.
655 Fourth Avenue
Longmont, CO 80501
October 16, 2003
Carl B. Mount
Senior Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colotado 80203 ,
RE: DURHAM SAND & GRAVEL PIT -PERMIT NO. M -1978-056 FSI JOB NO. 45071
Dear Mr. Mount:
I did an on-site inspection and evaluated the stability of the permanent man-made structures and facilities located
within 200 feet of the referenced sand and gravel mine. These structures and facilities include houses, outbuildings,
overhead and underground utilities located within the 16" Street right of way, domestic water wells and on site
oil/gas wells with underground piping and storage tanks. These structures and facilities are located on the Protection
of Existing Facilities Exhibit map prepared by Flatirons Surveying, Inc. The map identifies a 10 feet no excavation
buffer adjacent to the mine boundary limits. The buffer will also maintain existing off-site drainage conveyance
patterns away from existing structures or facilities. The proposed excavation slopes of 1.25 to one are stable for the
site's alluvial material. Minimum stockpile surcharge will be placed on the buffer to insure the excavation slope
stability.
The on site oiUgas wells will be protected with a buffer and the 1.25 to one excavation slopes. The existing
underground oil/gas pipelines will be protected with a stockpile buffer or relocated outside of the excavation limits.
Utilizing these mining methods will maintain the integrity of the existing structures and facilities located within 200
feet of the mining operations, and will have no adverse effects on these features.
If you have any questions or need additional information concerning this engineering evaluation, please contact me.
Sincerely,
FLATIRONS SURVEYING, 00 REGIS
P
Bruce F.
