No impact to alluvial groundwater in Oak Creek was anticipated and no groundwater monitoring was
conducted.
A spring and seep survey is performed annually in May covering the base of the ridge along Trout
Creek from the northern Moffat boundary to the base of West Ridge. The parameters used for surface
water monitoring sites are analyzed to characterize the type of flow, with the exception of TSS. Of the
12 springs and 6 seeps either damp or flowing, eight springs and 3 seeps exhibited sufficient discharge
for flow to be estimated and field parameters measured during the 2008 monitoring period. The
parameters of the seeps and springs monitored were within the acceptable range.
Discharges at the Edna Mine are regulated by the Colorado Discharge Permit System permit number
CO-0032638. The two NPDES outfalls at the Edna Mine discharged during May and June 2008.
DMP 004A and DMP 007A exceeded compliance criteria for the 30-Day Average Effluent Flow.
These exceedances were likely due to spring run-off from an above average snowfall. It is noted that
based on a Memorandum of Understanding between the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
and the Water Quality Control Division (WQCD), the WQCD is responsible for enforcing CDPS
permit conditions including effluent limitations.
Please feel free to contact-me with any questions at (303) 866-3567 ext. 8134.
Sincerely,
Jason Mu
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Beth Heesen, WWC Engineering, 611 Skyline Road, Laramie, WY 82070
