Hernandez, Daniel
From: Berry, David
Sent: Monday, February 09, 2009 12:17 PM
To: Hernandez, Daniel; Binns, Janet; Kaldenbach, Tom
Dan asked that I take a look at the draft "Evaluation of Hydrologic Impacts" and "Evaluation of Subsidence
Impacts" document(s) being developed for the pending SL-2 (C-1981-044).
In general, I am surprised this is still pending. I thought this action was actually withdrawn years ago due to the
fact that dewatering is still occurring, thus the areas being presented for release are not in a state of hydrologic
equilibrium. Upon brief review of the imaged documents, I see that the issue was raised in Dan's memo of March
1, 2005, but I did not see any reasonable response on the matter. The draft that was given to me last week seems
to acknowledge ongoing water management. I may be missing something, but I think we still have a major
unresolved issue.
Also, the subsidence analysis indicates that there is no surface disturbance above the workings subject to
release. I think remember some significant ground mitigation work that took place to repair subsidence features. I
cannot remember if we attached a timeframe to the surface repair work, but I am fairly sure that work was done
on the surface at multiple locations.
This is just a quick policy level review as requested by Dan, so I did not look at the records in detail, but I think we
still have some major gaps.
DB
3/11/2009
