2007 Annual Reclamation Report, Adequacy Review
Dear Mr. Kiger:
The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) has finished its adequacy review of the
2007 Annual Reclamation Report (ARR) for the Elk Creek Mine. In. general, the report is complete and well
organized. However, the Division has two comments:
In the CDRMS Annual Reclamation Report for the Year 2007 form, a value of 155.08 acres is used for
the category "Acreage in long-term mining or reclamation facilities". It appears that this value should be
98.53 acres. This category accounts for the acreage that has been disturbed for facilities and has not
undergone any backfilling and grading. This value is derived from the calculation that the total disturbed
acreage ("Cumulative Total" of "Acres disturbed", or 155.08 acres) is equal to the summation of the
backfilled and graded acreage ("Cumulative Total" of "Acres backfilled and graded", or 56.55 acres)
plus the acres disturbed for facilities and not backfilled and graded ("Acreage in long-term mining or
reclamation facilities", or 98.53 acres) plus the acreage for surface mining pits and spoil not backfilled
and graded ("Acreage in active mining areas", or 0 acres). Please revise the form in question.
2. On page 4 of the 2007 ARR, a total of 55.03 acres is given for the "Seeded Areas" category. It appears
that this value should be 56.55 acres. Please revise page 4 of the report.
