Sherman
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety has finished its adequacy review of the Bowie
Resources LLC (BRL) submittal of the 2008 Annual Reclamation Report for the Bowie No. 2 Mine. The
information in the report was well organized and clearly presented. The Division has two comments,
however, concerning the report.
1. As required in Rule 2.04.13(1)(e), please provide copies of the seed tags for the reseeding projects
that were performed in 2008.
2. In the Division's Annual Reclamation Report for the Year 2008 form submitted as part of the 2008
ARR, BRL used a value of 213.7 acres for the category "Acreage in long-term mining or
reclamation facilities". The Division believes that this value should be 246.6 acres. This category
accounts for the acreage that was disturbed for facilities but has not undergone any backfilling and
grading work. This value is derived from the calculation that the total disturbed acreage
("Cumulative Total" of "Acres disturbed", or 270.3 acres) is equal to the backfilled and graded
acreage ("Cumulative Total" of "Acres backfilled and graded", or 23.7 acres) plus the acreage
disturbed for facilities and not backfilled and graded ("Acreage in long-term mining or reclamation
facilities", or 246.6 acres) plus the acreage for surface mining pits and spoil not backfilled and
graded ("Acreage in active mining areas", or 0 acres). Please revise the form appropriately.
If you have any questions, please call me.
Sincerely,
osep J. dash
eTnvironmental Protection Specialist
cc: Jim Stover P.E. Q.E.
