The potential plant community consists of about 85 percent grasses, 5 percent
forbs, and 10 percent half shrubs, air dry weight.
Actual Vegetation Present
The proposed clay pit site was visited in early September of 1997 by Leon Kot
of the Natural Resources Conservation Service for the purposes of determining the
actual vegetation present. Attached is a copy of the vegetation inventory for the site
listed on form CO-ECS-2. As indicated on the form, the site was determined to be in
fair condition from an ecological standpoint. The plant community was determined to
be approximately 46 percent grasses and sedges, and 54 percent forbs and shrubs.
The mean vegetation density was estimated to be 37 percent. The current total annual
vegetation production was estimated to be about 775 pounds per acre, air-dry; the
annual usable yield was estimated to be about 225 pounds per acre, air-dry, and the.
annual palatable yield estimated to be about 550 pounds per acre, air-dry.
-21-
