The goal of
this revision application is to show that vegetation has become established to the extent that the
silt fences are no longer needed to treat runoff from the disturbed areas. Also included with this
revision are numerous grass filter designs intended to demonstrate that silt fences are no longer
required.
As discussed with you during a complete inspection of the mine site in late November 2008
(shortly after receiving the revision application), an inspection of the various silt fence locations,
vegetation establishment, and functionality of the grass filter designs will be required. Since
receiving the application ground conditions have not been conducive to such an inspection due to
the dormant vegetation or snow covered ground.
The Division will conduct an inspection of the various alternate sediment control areas identified
in the TR-58 revision as soon practicable when ground conditions allow. Adequacy concerns if
any will be identified and provided to SCC. The current decision deadline for TR-58 is March
25, 2009. It will likely be necessary to extend the decision deadline again.
Please call me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
P 3
Michael P.
