6820 appeared fresh to slightly weathered. Rock exposed above elevation 6820 or closer to the
surface appeared slightly to moderately weathered. Highwall orientations are approximately
north to south and east facing and foliation and joint orientations are favorable with respect to
this highwall development plan. Current mine slopes are being excavated steeper than the
default slope configuration utilizing 1'/z: l highwall height to bench width (60 foot highwalls to
40 foot benches). Rock observed in the highwalls was predominantly competent with the
following exceptions:
• Bench 6880 stations 0+75 to 1+05 consisted of granitic gneiss with foliation dipping
out of the highwall face creating minor potential for plane failure.
• Bench 6880 stations 1+05 to 1+25 consisted of a mixture of granitic and biotite gneiss
shear zone.
• Bench 6820 stations 0+30 to 2+50 consisted of weathered granitic gneiss with minor
biotite gneiss shear zone. This material will be removed before this bench is at its final
configuration.
Based on our observations the overall slope conditions for the steeper slope configuration are
considered stable and warrant primarily operational considerations.
-8-
Morrison Quarry Annual Report 2008 February 2009
F:\3919_038\Annual_Report_2008\Geotech_Report _2008W nnual_Report_2008_Geotech.doc
