Pond 4, both West Mine containments, and the three RDA containments were dry. Pond 8
at the RDA held a significant amount of water but remains some three feet below the primary
discharge riser. Ditches and culverts around the site remain in functional condition with no
problems noted.
Processing Waste
The RDA 100-year diversion ditch (below) was traversed along the entire length and found in
excellent condition. Once equipment is returned to the site it is recommended the ditch
along the front face be shaped using a dozer to ensure proper function. Downdrains at the
RDA appeared normal and in good condition.
100-year diversion above the RDA, New Elk Mine, February 2009
Support Facilities
The operator continues to rehabilitate and restore function to various buildings.
