=Environmental
Titan Environmental Corporation
• September 3, 1997 7939 E.Arapahoe Rd., Suite 230
Englewood, Colorado 80112
Phone: (303)850-9852
Mr. Bryce Romig Fax: (303) 850-9910
Environmental Coordinator
Climax Molybdenum Company
Highway 91
Climax, CO 80249
Dear Mr. Romig:
As We recently discussed, the Eagle Park Reservoir Post Reclamation Surface Water Sampling
Investigation will be complete by the end of September 1997. This letter summarizes the
sampling events conducted in 1997 to date, as well as the analytical data provided by the
sampling events. In general, the sampling and analysis investigation closely followed the
schedule and procedures outlined in the "Sampling and Analysis Plan, Eagle Park Reservoir,
Post Reclamation Sampling" (Titan Environmental Corporation, 1996) and the objectives of the
plan were met.
In smmary, data generated from the sampling events are as expected with higher analyte
concentrations indicated in the first several sampling events and concentrations decreasing
throughout the sampling investigation. Analytes which were initially higher than applicable
• stream water quality standards were iron, manganese, nitrogen, sulfate and pH. The higher
concentrations for these analytes occurred during the first several sampling events, however,
concentrations have consistently decreased throughout the sampling investigation to below
stream water quality standards for all analytes. For the past three sampling events (June 26, July
10 a0d July 25) all analytes have been below water quality standards for Segment 3 of the East
Fork of the Eagle River.
Surface Water Investigation
The primary objective of the post reclamation surface water investigation was to demonstrate
that the reservoir water quality is suitable for discharge into the East Fork of the Eagle River
usins the "Colorado Department of Health Water Quality Control Commission, Classifications
and ':Numeric Standards for Upper Colorado River Basin and North Platte River (Planning
Regioon 12)", (Colorado Department of Health Water Quality Control Commission, 1994) as
targOt water quality goals. These objectives were met.
Sure water sampling commenced in March 1997 and is anticipated to be complete by the end
of September 1997. A total of 10 surface water sampling events in 1997 have taken place to date
and events are scheduled to take place in August and September 1997. This will result in a
total of approximately 52 surface water samples for analysis. To date, 40 surface water samples
have been collected and analyzed. All analyses have been performed by ACZ Laboratories
according to EPA CLP protocol. A review of the quality control and quality assurance data
indicates the data meet CLP quality.
