Page 8 #15
3. Wildlife Values
Maintaining this range site in high. good to excellent range
condition produces the greatest abundance and variety of
wildlife not only for the hunter but also to individuals who
like to observe wildlife in natural settings. If range
condition is allowed to decline from overgrazing with cattle c,
sheep, pronghorn, deer and prairie chicken numbers will also
decline.
4. Hydrological Interpretations
Soils in this site are group,
outlined in the Soils of col
needed to determine hydrologi
curve numbers. Refer to SCs
Section 4, and Peak Flows in
information.
5. Recreation and Natural Beauty
d into "A" hydrologic group, as
rado Loss Factors and Erodibility
dbook. Forbs
bloom through the spring and into the mid-summer.
Pronghorn, deer, coyote, upland game bird and rabbit hunting
are the most common recreational uses of the deep sand site.
Because of the erosive nature of the deep sand site, heavy
vehicular traffic must be avoided. Destruction of the
vegetative cover will cause "blowout" problems.
6. Endangered Plants and Animals
The Greater prairie chicken and the Lessor prairie chicken are
dependent on this range site. The deep sand site serves as
important winter habitat for both the Greater prairie chicken
and the Lessor prairie chicken. Prairie chicken populations
are increasing in areas where planned grazing systems have been
implemented.
No endangered plant species have been reported on this site.
7.
