Upland game birds, coyotes, small
mammals and occasional deer use the, site through all or part o'
the year for feed and or cover.
5. Boils
a. Soils textures are loamy sandt or sands. 'Profiles are
deep and extremely sandy. Moisture penetration is rapid
and deep with less evaporation loss than on heavier
soils. This rapid intake of the surface soils following
a rain or snowmelt helps reduce evaporation, and thereby,
conserves soil moisture. Moisture is readily released to
plants. This deep moisture favors tall, deep-rooted
grasses even through moisture-holding capacity is low.
These soils are subject to severe wind erosion if
vegetation is badly depleted. Effective rooting depth of
these soils is 60 inches or more.
b.
