Physioaranhic Features <br />Deep Sand #15 <br />067XY015CO <br />67 <br />October 1989 <br />The landscape is gently sloping to strongly undulating with no <br />definite drainage pattern. Elevation ranges from 4000 to 5500 <br />feet with slopes ranging from less than 3% to 20% or more, and <br />may be extremely variable and may face in any direction. <br />2. Climatic Features <br />a. Average annual precipitation is 11 to 16 inches of which <br />75 to 80% falls during the growing season. The optimum <br />growing season of native plants is about 160 days during <br />spring, summer and fall from April 20 to October 10. <br />High intensity summer storms and hot, dry periods between <br />storms are common. High intensity summer storms followed by hot <br />dry windy periods are common. <br />3... Native (Climax PotentialZ Vegetation <br />a. The potential community is about 75 to 90 percent grasses, <br />5 to 15 percent forbs and 5 to 10 percent.shrubs. Sand <br />bluestem, prairie sandreed, yellow Indiangrass and <br />switchgrass are the dominant plants in the potential <br />plant community. Needleandthread, blue grama, Bessey <br />sandcherry and sand sagebrush are secondary plants. <br />Little bluestem, hairy grama, thickspike wheatgrass, <br />western wheatgrass, sand dropseed, tall dropseed, prairie <br />junegrass, red threeawn, sand paspalum, sandhill muhly, <br />Indian ricegrass, Schweinitz flatsedge sun sedge, <br />bottlebrush squirreltail, bush morningglory, spreading <br />eriogonum, stickleaf mentzelia, prairie spiderwort, <br />Nuttal evolvulus, lemon scurfpea,and snowball sandverbena <br />are also present in small amounts. No trees are native <br />to this site.
