Sherman
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety has completed a review of your adequacy
responses received June 12, 2008 to our December 21, 2007 adequacy review of Surety
Release No. 6 (SL-06) for the Golden Eagle Mine. Please review our comments/questions and
respond as appropriate. Where we have remaining comments or questions requiring a
response or indicating future consideration, I have highlighted those questions in bold text.
Issues identified during October 26, 2006 field inspection
As you know, the Division will require that Basin Resources Inc (BRI) abandon and reclaim well
218. Based on your letter of June 7, 2008, the Division understands that BRI is not requesting
bond release for this well and that the reclamation cost estimate should include the costs to
abandon and reclaim this well. BRI has also requested that reclamation bonding be retained for
reclamation of the short access road to well SF-1. This well was previously abandoned as
reported in an April 24, 2002 submittal. Reclamation bonding will also be retained for NM-20,
NM-21, NM-22, NM-23, and SF-2.
Additional wells for which the Division has received an abandonment report (April 24, 2002)
include NM92-2, No. 305, LA 264, LA 218(one hole), LA 221, and PAW-7.
Please provide an abandonment report for the following wells; ACAW-1, GE-77, PAVliil-5,
PAW-6, and CCAW-1. GE-77 may have been abandoned and reclaimed under CX-93-213-03.
The Division will conduct a final inspection regarding removal of markers, signs, and
ancillary items at the next opportunity, weather dependent.
A significant area outside the permit boundary on the Toupal pasture and across Highway 12 to
the north has been studied for many years for the presence of methane in the soil profile.
