Savage and Savage
Memorandum
To: Donald W. MacDonald, Coors Energy Company
From: Michael Savage, Savage and Savage, Inc.
Date: August 11, 2008
Subject: Third Quarter 2008 Pest and Disease Inspection; Keenesburg Mine
File #: C-81-028
On August 7, 2008 Edith and I conducted an inspection of the operational, reclaimed, and
revegetated areas at the Keenesburg Mine for evidence of plant pests, noxious weeds, and
plant diseases that could affect the re-established vegetation at the Keenesburg Mine. A
lack of late spring and summer moisture has resulted in little significant growth of
vegetation on the reclaimed areas at the mine. It was noted during our inspection that the
long-lived cool and warm season graminoids were present and alive, simply stunted this
year due to the lack of moisture.
All reclaimed and revegetated areas of the mine, including the 1985, 1986, 1987, 1995,
Is 1998 interseedings, 1999, 2000, 2002, and 2003 seedings were inspected by pedestrian
and vehicle means. The dugout area, the small cottonwood grove, the sediment pond
bottom and embankments, topsand piles, B Pit, and long-term overburden storage area
were also inspected for any potential problem areas.
We did not identify any disease conditions at any of the operational, reclaimed, or
revegetated areas of the mine site. We did not identify any plant pests which had affected
the growth of the vegetation during the growing season. No areas which experienced any
infestation or blight were found during the inspection. No patches of noxious weed
species were observed, nor were any areas observed where weeds, plant pests, or disease
showed a deleterious effect to the live vegetation.
C: Keenesburg Pest and Disease Inspection File
Danny Kipp, Keenesburg Mine
•
AHR-2008 -6-
