• 2.05.6
The applicant has alternative sources of water to mitigate the impact mining
may have on the quantity of surface and ground water within the permit and
adjacent area. The applicant controls 3,750 shares of Class I and 960
shares of Class I I stock in the Deer Trail Ditch Company and 782 shares of
Class II stock in the Fire Mountain Canal. The applicant also controls the
right to use 0.5 cfs decreed to the Deer Trail Ditch for power and mining
purposes with date of appropriation of February 15, 1907.
(a)(iv) The proposed floor elevation of the mine entries at the portal is 6878 feet.
Map 10, Upper Perched Water Zone -Mesa Verde Formation, shows the
elevation of the ground water in the vicinity of the portal to be above the
proposed portal elevation. Therefore, gravity discharge of water from the
portals is possible. See section 2.05.4(2)(g) for portal sealing options.
The quality of water that may discharge by gravity from the mine would be a
combination of the quality of water being encountered in the B-Seam during
mid 2008, the water quality in the B-1 Sump and the D-Seam. A one time
• measurement of the mine inflow taken on June 2, 2008 from the B-8 panel
headgate had the following quality:
B-Seam Inflow From B-8 Panel Headgate June 2, 2008
pH (s.u) 8.1 Total Manganese (mg/I) 0.013
Conductivity (umhos/cm) 5,000 Dissolved Manganese (mg/I) 0.012
Total Dissolved Solids (mg/I) 3,305 Total Iron (mg/I) 0.060
Total Suspended Solids (mg/I) 17 Dissolved Iron (mg/I) 0.030
The table below presents some additional quality analysis performed on
water sampled from the B-1 sump, the D-Seam monitoring well (MW-82) and
the North Fork of the Gunnison River (NFG).
LJ
TR-54
2.05 - 69 12/08
~ PP.Rov~
+~~ ~D ~
