• REVEGETATION
• Seeding and Shrub Planting
No new seeding was conducted at Seneca II; however 9.8 acres were re-seeded at the solid waste landfill area.
The re-seeding was done with a shrub grasslands seedmix (see Table No. 08-2, Upland Sites and Ephemeral
Drainages). An actual seed tag taken from a seed bag used is contained in attachment 2008 Seed Tags. No
shrubs or trees were planted at Seneca II Mine in 2008.
• Weed Control
Survey for noxious weeds was carried out on the Seneca II Mine permit area in 2008. Canada thistle was the
primary target species, with lesser activity directed towards areas of hounds tongue and whitetop. The weed
control areas will continue to be monitored in 2008 for effectiveness and necessary retreatment.
See the attached weed control daily log spreadsheet for more detailed description of the 2008 herbicide
application (actual log is on file at the mine site) and the 2008 Weed Control Areas map for locations of
spraying areas.
• Revegetation Monitoring
Revegetation monitoring of permanently revegetated areas was conducted during the summer of 2008 by
ESCO Associates, Inc. The 2008 Annual Revegetation Monitoring report will be submitted as a separate
• document.
• Grazing
Cattle (1,027 long yearlings) were moved on to the Seneca II reclaimed area between July 23,d and August 15C.
All cattle were moved off the Seneca II Mine area between September 12th and September 14th, 2008. See
attached 2008 Grazing Plan Map for pasture locations.
This grazing scheme resulted in a total of 2,042 AUM's for 2008.
Assumptions: 7 longyearling = 0.8 AUM, requiring 648 pounds of forage per month. (One AUM requires 810 pounds
of forage).
The AUM usage is calculated using the following assumptions:
Assumptions.
Average production = 2,219 lbs./acre (see 2004 Revegetation Monitoring Report)
Total reclaimed area = 2213 acres (included Pre-Law area)
One AUM requires 810 lbs. of forage
2,219 lbs/acre (x) 2,213 acres = 4,910,647 lbs. of total forage produced
8101bs. of forage (x) 2,042 AVM's = 1,654,0201bs. of forage required;
Therefore,
1,540,020 (/) 4,910,647 (x) 100 = 33.7 % utilization of the total Seneca II reclaimed area
•
