J
Exhibit G - Water Resources
Surface Water
Mining is expected to have minimal impact on the prevailing hydrologic
balance. No streams or springs exist within or nearby the permit area.
Runoff is limited to periods of snow melt and summer storms, and occurs as
overland flow across the permit area. No channelized water courses exist on the site.
The velocity of runoff is very low owing to the nearly level land slope. The surface
gradient typically ranges from only about 0.4 to 0.8 percent over most of .the affected
area. Any storm water occurring on site will be easily controlled by simple ditches,
berms and impoundment as described below.
Irrigation Ditches and Other Structures
-No irrigation ditches or other structures currently occur on site.
Ground Water
According to the current lessee, ground water typically occurs at a depth of 10 to
12 feet below the surface, depending on location. The operation will be mined in a
manner to not permanently expose the ground water table.
Storm Water Control
A simple runoff control impoundment will be created on the extreme southeast
part of the permit area to intercept storm water from disturbed portions of the site. The
basin will be created by sub grade excavation resulting from extraction of the
aggregate -- it will not be necessary to create a dam embankment above grade. Most
of the storm water runoff from the disturbed portions of the area will naturally flow to the
area excavated, particularly as the pit expands. If necessary, small local diversion
ditches and or earthen berms will be field engineered as required to route any
-13-
