Bruce Park Landslide Project No. 25-196
Bowie Mine #2
0 SITE INVESTIGATION
Piezometers
Four piezometers were installed at the approximate locations presented on Figure 2.
Summary logs of the soils encountered are presented in Appendix A. The piezometers were
installed to depths of 15 to 22 feet. Groundwater was encountered at a depth of about 17.7 feet
in Boring P-2 during drilling. The piezometers were checked on the dates shown in Table 2.
The data indicated that spring snow melt may be influencing groundwater levels locally.
Groundwater monitoring will continue indefinitely. A summary of the current piezometer data is
presented in Table 2.
Table 2 - Piezometer Data
Piezometers
P-2 P-4 P-6 P-8
-Approximate Ground
Elevation (feet) 8199 8250 8257
I 8221
Date Water Level Below Ground Surface (feet)
2-28-06 D D D D
3-11-06 D D D D
3-17-06 D D D D
f
1
3-22-06 14.25 D D D
3-31-06 10.16 35.93 13.43 _
D
4-07-06 4.90 12.67 12.50 D
4-14-06 -0.16 12.62 12.28 D
4-20-06 -0.22 13.10 12.38 17.71
4-25-06 0.01 13.42 12.61 17.63
5-05-06 2.64 13.83 13.40 20.02
5-31-06 7.85 13.96 14.67 21.14
7-06-06 11.65 13.95 14.67 D
Variations in groundwater conditions will likely occur seasonally. The magnitude of the
variation will be largely dependent upon the amount of spring snowmelt, duration and intensity
of precipitation, and the surface and subsurface drainage characteristics of the surrounding
area. Perched water tables will likely develop during spring runoff.
Inclinometers
Four inclinometers were installed adjacent to the piezometers at the approximate
locations presented on Figure 2. The subsoils encountered in the inclinometers were similar to
the materials encountered in the piezometers. The inclinometers were installed to depths of 10
to 26 feet below the ground surface into very hard bedrock. The inclinometers indicated
4
