Bruce Park Landslide Project No. 25-196 <br />Bowie Mine #2 <br />particular concern is that, if the landslide rapidly advances into the reservoir, the resulting water <br />displacement and/or wave action could overtop the dam. <br />It is our understanding that subsidence issues related to the reservoir were addressed in <br />other reports and our not included in the scope of this investigation. <br />SITE CONDITIONS <br />The site is located about 4 miles north of Bowie, Colorado (Figure 1). The subject <br />landslide is located adjacent to the west abutment of the main dam at the Terror Creek <br />Reservoir (Figure 2). The landslide is located on a southeast facing slope with grades of about <br />15 to 20 percent dipping into the reservoir. An existing road is located in the lower portions of <br />the slide adjacent to the reservoir and several ditches cross the slide area. The slide area is <br />covered with grass, weeds and bushes and is generally devoid of trees. The topography is <br />hummocky and vegetative growth indicated that water ponds in several areas of the slide and/or <br />springs may be observed during spring runoff. <br />0 SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS <br />Subsurface conditions were investigated by drilling eight exploratory borings. Four <br />borings were completed as piezometers and four borings were completed as inclinometers. <br />Borings P-2, P-4, P-6 and P-8 were drilled within the slide and were completed as piezometers. <br />Borings 1-1, 1-3, 1-5 and 1-7 were drilled adjacent to the piezometers and were completed as <br />inclinometers. The inclinometers were drilled approximately 2 to 3 feet away from the <br />piezometers and were not logged. The approximate piezometer and inclinometer locations are <br />presented on Figure 2. The test hole locations were selected based on accessible locations <br />during the winter season. Summary logs of the subsurface conditions encountered in the <br />piezometers are presented in Appendix A. <br />Soil samples were collected at selected intervals in each of the piezometer borings <br />utilizing a California sampler and/or a standard split spoon sampler. Disturbed samples were <br />obtained from the standard split spoon samples in accordance with local practice and blow <br />counts were recorded for Standard Penetration Tests (SPT). Relatively undisturbed samples <br />were obtained from the California sampler and blow counts were recorded for Penetration Tests <br />(PT). The PT and SPT when properly evaluated are indicators of the consistency or relative <br />density of the material tested. The results are shown on the Boring Logs, Appendix A. <br />2
