TABLE A.1
Rock Core Logging System

0
Column Description
Interval The coring interval or sample identification number.
Penetration (ft) The length the core barrel was advanced during the coring interval.
Recovery (ft) The length of core recovered. Gains and losses can be transferred to
adjacent runs and cancel each other out during the process of determining
where core loss or gain is located.
Recovery (%) The percent of core recovered (shown in histogram as white).
Recovery Recovery (ft)/Penetration (ft)
RQD (ft) The.sum of the total lengths of solid core which are equal to or greater
than 0.4 ft. If the core is broken by handling or the drilling process
(mechanical breaks), the broken pieces are fitted together and counted as
one piece provided that they form the required length. The length of these
pieces is measured along the centerline of the core.
RQD (%) The RQD percent (shown in histogram as solid).
RQD (%) = (RQD (ft)/Penetration (ft)) ' 100
Coring Time (min) Time to advance the core run. Time does not include drill down time, etc.
No. of Pieces The number of pieces recovered in the core run.
Longest (ft) The longest piece recovered in the run. The longest piece includes any
lengths separated by mechanical breaks.
Shortest (ft) The shortest piece recovered. Pieces bounded by mechanical break(s)
are not included.
GEI Consultants, Inc.
