2.04 APPLICATION FOR PERMIT FOR SURFACE OR UNDERGROUND MINING
ACTIVITIES--MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR INFORMATION ON
ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES
2.04.2 Objectives
No response required.
2.04.2 Responsibilities
No response required.
2.04.3 General Requirements: Site Description and Land Use
Information
(1) The rugged mountainous terrain in the permit and adjacent
areas is predominantly covered with pinyon-juniper and
oak brush. A few small undeveloped pastures and meadows
are also present in the high country. The slopes are too
steep to offer any agricultural potential and offer only
minimal grazing potential.
•- Springs and ponds are common in the permit and adjacent
area which enhance the value of the high country for
wildlife habitat and historically livestock grazing.
No commercially merchantable timber exists near the
permit area due to the steep slopes and low elevation
although some small stands of aspen do occur within the
area.
The lower portion of the permit and adjacent area
consists of pasturelands, orchards, residential and
industrial. The Fire Mountain Canal and Deer Trail Ditch
provide important irrigation water to the pasturelands
and orchards. The nearby orchards are operated on a for
profit basis. The pasturelands are used for livestock
grazing and hay production. There are many single family
houses nearby. The nearby industrial activities include
a coal loadout facility, railroad tracks and old State
Highway 133.
P6PMIT APPLICATIOR
2.04 - 1 -
