M03106GE
- The field study included obtaining a sample of the current gob
pile material for laboratory strength tests.
- The laboratory study included tests of select soil samples
obtained during the field study to help assess:
the soil strength potential (internal friction angle and
cohesion) of samples tested,
the swell and expansion potential of the samples tested,
the settlement/consolidation potential of the samples
tested,
the moisture content and density of samples tested, and
the moisture cohtent-dry density relationship (Proctor) test
of the coal gob sample tested.
- This report presents our geotechnical engineering comments,
suggestions and recommendations for planning and design of site
development.
- Our comments, suggestions and recommendations are based on the
subsurface soil and ground water conditions encountered during .
our site and laboratory studies.
- Our study did not include any environmental or geologic hazard
issues.
2.0 SITE CHARACTERISTICS
Site characteristics include observed existing and pre-existing
site conditions that may influence the geotechnical engineering
aspects of the proposed site development.
2.1 Site Location
The proposed gob pile is located at the Bowie Number 2 Mine
located about four (4) miles east of Paonia, Colorado. A project
vicinity map is presented on Figure 1.
2.2 Site Conditions
At the time of our field study the proposed gob pile site was
vacant. The proposed site slopes down to the south at an inclina-
tion of about two (2) to one (1) (horizontal to vertical) and
flatter. Several drainage channels cross the site in a southerly
direction with small ridges between the drainages. The proposed
gob pile site contains a medium dense cover of native dryland
ground type vegetation and juniper and pinion trees.
. 2
~tam6ert and ~~,~aeiate~
CONSULTING GEOTECNNICAL ENGIN EENS ANO
MATEPIAL TESTING
