Section 1 <br />Introduction <br />This report presents the design analysis for the storm water drainage facilities at the <br />Van 4 Mine owned by Denison Mines (USA) Corp. (Denison). The scope of the report <br />covers aspects of storm water collection, conveyance, and retention design necessary <br />to comply with U.S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and <br />the Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety (DRMS) drainage criteria. <br />Detailed hydrologic and hydraulic calculations are provided in the Appendices of the <br />report. <br />1.1 Location <br />The Van 4 Mine is located on Monogram Mesa to the east of the Colorado-Utah state <br />line in the southwest corner of Montrose County, Colorado. The mine shaft portal is <br />located approximately 10 miles directionally west of Naturita, Colorado, adjacent to <br />County Road DD19 (URS 2008). The location of the Van 4 Mine is shown in Figure 1. <br />1.2 Procedure and Approach <br />The following procedure was used to design the drainage facilities components: <br />1. The peak discharge was estimated for a selected storm return interval using <br />drainage basin characteristics. <br />2. A drainage channel was designed to convey water for the selected return interval <br />based on available topographic data and aerial photos. <br />3. The type of channel lining was designed for the estimated flow condition. <br />4.
