Walcher
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
My comments are below. I have placed in italics the sections that can be used as cut-and-
paste for the operator.
(1) This is a very good idea. Getting an additional groundwater monitoring point can
only help interpretation.
(2) Based on the description of the dewatering operations on pages 2.05.3-12 to 14, it's
not clear what hydraulic connections exist that will effect the water levels at the
proposed location. Please describe in the groundwater monitoring section exactly where
the North dewatering well is situated in the underground flow system. From where does
water accumulate in the 1-North section?
(3) Is it predicted that water will flow out of the 1-North section once the level reaches
some particular level? If it will exit the 1-North section, where will it flow?
(4) The proposed well was added to the Probable Hydrologic Consequences section of
the permit. Please include there a prediction of what data from that well will show. That
is, based on the most recent data concerning mine inflows and the operator's knowledge
of the mined-out sections, what is anticipated at this location?
(5) The depiction of this well on the revised map included in the revision submittal does
not make clear exactly where the well is located. Please assure that the well is included
on maps of the monitoring locations.
If you have any questions, I'll be here.
cc: Sandy Brown
Office of Colorado
Office of
Geological
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Survey
