Cattany <br />Division Director <br />Natural Resource Trustee <br />The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, <br />Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on February 22, 2008, an application to renew an <br />existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Lorencito Canyon Mine was considered complete for the <br />purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation Act <br />and the Rules initiate from this date of filing. <br />Lorencito Coal Company, LLC proposes to continue Surface coal mining and/or reclamation operations on land <br />located approximately 3 miles West of Segundo on Hwy 12. The permit area is further described as follows: <br />Lands south of the Purgatorie River, lands east of Cow Canyon, lands north of the Puertecito Canyon, and lands west <br />of Little Jeff Canyon, covering approximately 3,142 acres. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Little Pine Canyon. <br />This is the second five-year permit renewal at this site. The mine is currently limited to reclamation operations only <br />and this status is not expected to change during this next five-year renewal period. Presently the disturbance area is <br />95% reclaimed. <br />A copy of the renewal application is available for public inspection at the Las Animas County Clerk and Recorder, <br />200 East First Street, Room 104, Trinidad, CO 81082, and at the Division office.
