Technical Revision No. 35 (SAE 3, 5, 12 and 16 Demonstrations)
Dear State Supervisor:
Pursuant to Title 34, Article 35, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised
Statutes, the Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice that on
_ January 14, 1994, a technical revision application for a permit to conduct
coal mining operations by Basin Resources, Inc. , 14300 Highway 12, Weston,
Colorado 81091 , was deemed complete for the purposes of filing. All reviews
and comment periods as provided in the Act and Regulations promulgated
thereunder initiate from this day of filing.
The applicant proposes to revise underground coal mining operations at the
Golden Eagle Mine. The technical revision addresses demonstrations for four
small area exemptions . Demonstrations must be provided to show that the
runoff from these four areas can meet effluent standards.
The Golden Eagle permit area is located approximately 20 miles west of
Trinidad, Colorado, and is described as follows:
Sections 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22 of Township 33
South, Range 67 West; projected Sections 27, 28, 29, 30,
31 , 32, 33 and 34 of Township 33 South, Range 67 West;
and projected Sections 3 and 4 of Township 34 South,
Range 67 West.
Projected sections are partially or fully projected by
Basin Resources due to the unsurveyed nature of the
Maxwell Land Grant.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on the USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle
maps of Vigil , Weston, Tercio and Little Pine Canyon.
Because the above referenced technical revision application might alter
previously approved permit conditions or mitigation measures, we are
requesting your agency' s evaluation of the potential for impacts to threatened
or endangered species of plants or animals, or wildlife species otherwise
protected by federal law. Applicable sections of the revision application are
enclosed. Please advise us if you require additional information.
