Sherman
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (Division) has completed a review of the
current approved permit application for the Golden Eagle mine. At this time, given the limited
area and extent of the entirety of the permitted mine, now 1.2 acres at the NW-1 ventilation
shaft, no inadequacies or deficiencies were identified.
As you know, reclamation costs were recalculated as part of the recent approval (August
2008) of SL-06, a Phase III bond release for the majority of the disturbed area. The approved
bond amount to be held by the Division as a result of SL-06 was $72,099.00 and that bond
amount is the amount currently held as required by the Division. This bond amount is
statutorily limited by Rule 3.03.1(2) and far exceeds any amount of bond that might be
required should reclamation efforts at the NW-1 shaft fail or abandonment of the remaining 6
water wells be required under the permit.
Revised Legal and Compliance information required by Rule 2.03 was recently approved
under Minor Revision No. 83 (MR-83) in October 2008.
The Division will move forward on developing the required written findings for the Golden
Eagle Mine. If any issues are identified prior to that time that should be resolved under the
renewal process, we will let you know. If you have any questions, please contact me.
Ynt rel A.
