STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866-3567
FAX: (303) 832-8106
INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO: Byron Walker
FROM: Mike Boulay
DATE: September 10, 2007
SUBJECT: Yoast Mine Permit C-94-082, Technical Revision No. 36
COLORADO
D I V I S ION O F
RECLAMATION
MINING
SAFETY
Bill Ritter, Jr.
Governor
Harris D. Sherman
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
I am requesting your assistance in reviewing a slope stability evaluation for a new proposed sediment
pond at the Yoast Mine (Pond 012A). This pond will be located in the drainage above the existing
Pond 012. Pond 012 will remain and will continue to be the NPDES discharge point. As you recall
a significant slide occurred on the side slope above Pond 012 and has diminished its capacity. SCC
plans to further reduce the size of existing Pond 012 as part of their mitigation plan for the slide
damaged area. The application was deemed complete on August 29, 2007.
I am only requesting your assistance on the slope stability evaluation portion of the application,
which is provided in Attachment 13-21 of TR-36. A complete copy of the technical revision is
available for review in the Denver office. Attachment 13-21 is located near the end of the
application. I am requesting a review by September 28, 2007, if possible. I know that you have
limited time, so if you are unable to get to complete the review then that is not a problem and I will
plan to review the slope stability analysis. Please let me know if you are available and have the time
to review this. I greatly appreciate your assistance.
Cc: Sandy Brown
Dan Hernandez
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand )unction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
