The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33,
Section 116, Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on April 4, 2008, an application to revise coal
mining operations at the Yoast Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was
submitted by Seneca Coal Company. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations
initiate from this date of filing.
This revision application provides updated legal information including surface and mineral ownership and
easements, owners & controller information, and compliance information for Seneca Coal Company. In addition,
the application contains designs for new permanent stream channels, revised sedimentation modeling, and request
for retention of certain facilities (roads, ponds, exclosure fencing, etc.).
The revision does not entail any additional surface disturbance, nor does it alter previously approved
wildlife mitigation measures. Aspects of the revision application that may be of interest to CDOW include
requests for retention of certain existing structures (including certain ponds, roads, and elk fencing associated with
shrub and tree planting areas). The request for retention of permanent facilities is contained in Attachment 20-1 of
the revision application.
The surface coal mining operation is on land located approximately 7 miles Southwest of Hayden, Colorado. The
permit area is further described as follows:
T6N, R87W, Portions of Sections 28, 29 and 32
T5N, R87W, All of Section 17; Portions of Sections 5, 8, 16, 18, 19, 20, 29, 30
Mt. Harris & Dunckley
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Dunckley and Mount
Harris.
