(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: NA-1997-(115
INSPECTION DATE: 1.498/(19 INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: MAC
OBSERVATIONS
The inspection was conducted by Michael Cunningham of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. Also
present for the inspection was Jesse Stackhouse and Clint Mehring of Washington County. The Brick Pit is
located approximately 8 miles east of Akron, Colorado. The site is permitted for 36.7 acres; only 10 acres is to be
disturbed at any given time.
This inspection was performed as part of the Division's regular monitoring program. Weather conditions at the
time of the inspection were windy and overcast with a light layer of snow on the ground. The permit sign was
posted in accordance with Rule 3.1.12. The permit boundary for this site is delineated by the banks of Surveyor
Creek. The permit area begins on the east side of County Road KK 3/4, just north of County Road 40. There was
concrete rubble and other debris on the bed of Surveyor Creek at this location. The material was washed into
the creek from a recent precipitation event and is not associated with the mining operation. Surveyor Creek
was not flowing at the time of the inspection.
There was no mining occurring at the time of the inspection and no mining equipment was present. The area
that is actively being mined is located upstream of the second switchback; south of Highway 34. The disturbed
area is under the 10 acre limit. There were several product stockpiles located in the disturbed area. Everything
outside of the disturbed area that is south of Highway 34 has been reclaimed. Reclamation consisted of
smoothing out the creek bed. Since mining is taking place in the bed of an intermittent creek, the Reclamation
Plan does not call for replacing topsoil or seeding. Recent precipitation events have altered the reclaimed
portions of the creek bed, creating a more natural landscape with undulations in the creek bed. Mining of
Surveyor Creek has been contained to the creek bed; the banks have not been disturbed.
Mr. Stackhouse indicated that the sand and gravel deposit is close to being mined out. The Operator may
request an acreage reduction at this time or request a full release when reclamation is complete.
This concluded the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Jesse Stackhouse
OPERATOR: Washington County
STREET: 501 4th Ave_
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Ott C-0 80743
