III. COMMENTS-COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado DRMS.No one represented the operator
during the field inspection. The reclaimed mine site was mostly covered in wet, melting snow. The ground that
didn't have snow cover was very wet and muddy.
Sims and Markers
The mine ID sign and post were on the ground at the top of the hill and need to be put back up.
Roads
The paved haul road was covered in snow but was passable. The road's cable guard was in place. The bridge
was snow covered but was passable on foot.
Hydrology
The caps were on the two alluvial well pipes,AA-I and AA-3. The riverside berm was in place. The collection
ditch leading into the sediment pond was snow covered but appeared to have enough capacity.
The hillside spring was flowing in its channel that leads to the hillside spring water treatment pond. The ice
covered water level in the treatment pond was about one foot below the level of the horizontal pipe. The
treatment pond was discharging orange colored water at about 10 to 15 gpm. In spite of the orange color, the
discharge water has been shown to be in compliance with water quality standards.
There was ice covered water in the sediment pond,at a level about one foot below the invert of the primary
discharge pipe. The gated valve on the primary pipe was closed. The sediment pond's emergency spillway was
covered in snow but appeared to have sufficient capacity.
Facilities
The concrete sections from the demolished mine office are still on site.
Reclamation
The reclaimed fan and portal road was covered in snow but showed no signs of instability. The reclaimed fan
area and the reclaimed portal area were also covered in snow.
c:/word/bear3/insp0209
