The only significant differences will be longwall panel length and width,
i.e. approximately 10,000 - 17,000 feet in length compared with original panel length of approximately 10,000 feet,
} and 1,000 - 1,200 feet wide compared to the original panel width of approximately 640 feet.
The existing surface facilities, including the bathhouse, offices, shop/warehouse, coal stockpiling and handling
systems, and coal loadout will continue to be used for mining coal from the Eastern, Northern and Western Mining
Districts. In order to support mining in the EMD and NMD, a dewatering facility was constructed and three fans
installed. One new fans, the Zero-Entry Fan, has been previously permitted. The location of the new support
systems are shown on Map 23, Mine Plan, and Maps 17 and 17A and Maps 18 and 18A, Premine Soils and
Premine Vegetation, respectively, and these systems are described in greater detail in the following sections. Only
one of the new fan sites (the EMD or lAP and Robinson Fans)at the east end of the 9-Right longwall panel between
the 9- and 10-Right gateroads, required construction in an undisturbed area. At this site, two fans were installed
and associated ancillary structures were constructed. In order to support continuing and future mining in the NMD
and WMD, a second dewatering borehole was completed (TORT Borehole 2), a new intake shaft (18RT Shaft) was
installed, and a new intake shaft and associated support facilities (6MN Facilities) were completed.
EMD (Panels 2 Right through 6 Right, PR 97-04)
The same mining methods utilized in the EMD will be used to extract the coal from the remainder of the EMD.
The existing surface facilities, including the EMD ventilation sites, will be used for mining of coal in the new five-
year permit area. Presently, no new surface facilities are planned in support of the mining that is to occur in the
remainder of the EMD.
NMD (Panels 12 Right through 16 Right, PR 99-OS)
The same mining method utilized in the EMD will be used to extract coal from the NMD, except that the face width
~~ is increased to 1000-foot. The existing surface facilities, including the EMD ventilation site, will be used for
mining of coal in the NMD permit area.
TR08-64 2.05-11 06/17/08
