Sherman
Executive Director
Dick Wolfe, P.E.
Director
RECEWD
,-04EB 0'4 2009
Division of Reciamation,
Mining and Safety
We have reviewed your letter of September 25, 2008 requesting renewal of the above referenced
substitute water supply plan ("SWSP") for an existing sand and gravel operation. The required fee of
$257.00 for the renewal of this substitute supply plan has been submitted. The original supply plan was
approved on September 15, 1993.
Plan Operations
This plan seeks to replace depletions resulting from mining operations at the Bucklen Pit. The
depletions that result from the mining operation are evaporation, water lost in mined product, and dust
suppression. The mine is located in Weld County in portions of Section 36, Township 6 North, Range 66
West, and portions of Section 31, Township 6 North, Range 65 West. This SWSP will cover the
replacement of the projected depletions of 42.06 acre-feet from November 1, 2008 through October 31,
2009. The replacements will be made using five shares of the Greeley Irrigation Company and leased
water from the City of Greeley.
Depletions
The anticipated net depletion for this plan is 42.06 acre-feet per year. According to the
information submitted, 5.27 acres of ground water was exposed within the reclamation permit boundary
prior to January 1, 1981. The pit is presently being dewatered to allow for dry mining. The area of
exposed ground water in the pit and the dewatering trenches totals 17.81 acres. For the term of this plan,
evaporation will be replaced from the 12.54 acres of net ground water exposed after 1980 (17.81 acres -
5.27 acres). The Bucklen Pit is located within 100 feet from the Cache La Poudre River, therefore the
timing of the stream depletions was assumed to be instantaneous.
Computation of evaporation under this plan was also reduced during the ice covered period.
