2008-10 (2008 Topsoil Balance Map) gives details. The soils were separately stockpiled
by soil types as specified by our permit.
10 Cover Crop
All long-term topsoil stockpiles have been planted with the approved seed mix #3.
New Field Seeding and Interseeding
No new long term seeding took place during 2008. Interseeding was not performed during
2008. This is noted in Exhibit 2008-4.
Revegetated Land Fertilizer Rates and Pasture Yields
Fertilizer was not applied this year. NH1 and NH2 fields are depicted on Exhibits 2008-1
and 2008-9 respectively. No soil samples were taken for fertilization requirements. NH2
first cut yields varied from 1,064 lb/acre to 4,022 lb/acre are shown in Exhibit 2008-11.
New Horizon Mine did not harvest in the NH1 area.
Weed and Pest Control Activities
Noxious weed control in 2008 consisted of several applications. Target species for weeds
were Russian Knapweed, Canada Thistle, White Top, Curly Cup Gum Weed, and Western
whorled milkweed. Spot spraying was done at NH2, see Exhibit 2008-5. The treated sites
were small and random in nature and too small to accurately depict on the map, however,
the general areas are depicted.
Western Fuels Colorado personnel and BackCountry Vegetation Management, Colorado
License # 11410, of Norwood, CO, treated noxious weeds. Various herbicides were
applied at the manufacture specified rates, A surfactant and a marking dye were used
with the herbicides to maximize spray effectiveness. Incidental spraying of nuisance weeds
was also performed in many of the same areas.
A pest control program ran approximately three months this summer. The target pests
were prairie dogs in the NH2 area. Gopher "gas" bombs were set in individual holes and
covered immediate. This area is noted in Exhibit 2008-14. Approximately 40.3 acres were
managed for rodents in the NH2 Permit area.
Label requirements, recommendations, and conditions were followed for all chemicals used
in the weed management and pest control programs.
Acres in Long-Term Mining or Reclamation Facilities
As shown in Exhibit 2008-13, 95.4 acres are currently held in long-term mining or
reclamation facilities.
Acres in Active Mining Areas
As Exhibit 2008-12 indicates, the 2008 active mine area disturbance was 124.0 acres.
This Exhibit includes leftover disturbance from prior years that is not considered to be long
term disturbance.
. Acres Seeded/Planted for the Last 10 Years or more
The total number of acres seeded or planted and not released from bond within the NH1
and NH2 permit areas is 452.32.
F:\Eng\DATA\Word\Ann Reclaim Report\2008\2008RECRPT.doc
