Water levels in monitoring hole 29-4M decreased 3.0 feet from the prior year. Much of <br />the effects are probably due to the continuation of drier than normal conditions. Some <br />influence of longwall mining may be showing up as the lateral source for recharge has <br />been cut off. <br />The water level in Hole 30-8M increased 0.6 feet. This well is located in a pillar next to <br />the start line for LWB-8. This pillar was developed in September 2006. A substantial <br />decrease in water level was noted following the development work. The change noted in <br />2008 is not considered significant. <br />Hole 31-7M increased in water level 0.2 feet. This well is up gradient from mining activity <br />and the water level fluctuation may be attributed to the recent recharge from the up <br />gradient location. <br />33-8M experienced a similar drop in water level (8.0 feet) as 33-8U probably due to the <br />influence of mining in longwall panel LWB-6 and LWB-7. <br />The hydrographs of the "lower sandstone facies" are designated by the letter "L" following <br />the hole number. <br />Hole 2-17L showed a rise of 3.3 feet from the prior year. <br />Hole 33-81- showed a 4.7 foot decrease in the depth to water. This response is similar to <br />but less pronounced as in the adjacent 33-8U and M holes. <br />Hole 4-20L continued a slow but steady decline of 2.6 feet from the prior year. This <br />decline can be attributed to its close proximity to mine workings in the abandoned D- <br />seam. <br />Monitoring hole 22-21- was completed in October 2005 for monitoring future mining <br />expansion. This hole recorded a 5.7 foot drop in the water table over the prior year. <br />From the baseline data, all three zones should be classified as "aquitards" in that they will <br />yield water but at very slow rates. Mining in the B Seam so far has encountered only <br />small flows of water and the mine is essentially dry. Typical inflows are in the order of 1 to <br />8 gpm with occasional short term increases when. localized perched water tables are <br />encountered. Water leaking out of caved areas is routed to the sumps at the end of <br />gateroads. No underground water has been pumped out of the mine since the January <br />31, 1996 underground fire. Currently, excess water is pumped from the B-seam to the <br />abandoned D-seam for storage. <br />7
