RULE 2 PERMITS
• 2.04.8 Climatological Information
The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) recently approved dispersion model, AERMOD, replaces
EPA's formerly-approved dispersion model, ISCST3. Due to the new model, a new meteorological
monitoring station with a 10-meter tower was upgraded this past summer to collect the data needed. The
new parameters measured at the upgraded station include wind speed and wind direction at 10 meters,
temperature at 2-meters and 10-meters, solar radiation, relative humidity, barometric pressure, and
precipitation. The station began operation on July 1, 2008. One year of representative site specific
meteorological data is needed for modeling with AERMOD. Assuming that there will be no data capture
issues that would diminish the dataset, one year's worth of data will be collected by June 30, 2009. Once
the data is reviewed, the data should be ready for modeling by late summer of 2009.
At the request of the Colorado Air Pollution Control Division (APCD), particulate monitoring (PM10) is
also being conducted on a continuous basis at the site for the purposes of demonstrating compliance with
the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for PM10. The PM10 monitor, a "Tapered
Element Oscillating Micorbalance" (TEOM) system was installed at the same location as the
meteorological monitoring station and began collecting data on July 29, 2008.
•

Collom - Rule 2, Page 45 Revision Date: 1/23/09
Revision No.: PR-03
