E 1 Longwall Panel Methane Drainage Wells Project Plan
Technical Revision No. 111;
hole filled in with subsoil. A permanent marker shall be installed on top of the plug
identifying the MDW. The pad will then be reclaimed to approximate original contour.
The Methane Drainage Well drilling experience for Mountain Coal Company has shown
that no aquifers have yet been encountered. However, the procedures described above
would serve to properly protect any aquifers that would be encountered.
A drawing of a typical abandoned MDW is attached as Figure No.3, Proposed MDW
Hole Plugging Method. Anticipated total depths for these wells range from 450-feet for
MDWs E1-5.5 ;and approximately 1400 for MDW E 1-55.
4. Retention of drill logs by applicant.
MCC will retain in its files all drill logs and will make them available for inspection by
any authorized officer. MCC may conduct geophysical logging and/ or collect core, from
this project.
5. Utilizing drill holes as water monitoring wells.
MCC does not anticipate encountering any significant aquifers during this drilling
program. MCC does not intend to complete any of these holes as water montoring wells.
6. Maps of Project Area
The attached E Seain MDW Drilling map at a scale of 1" = 800' depicts the general
locations of proposed drill pads, methane drainage wells, and USFS low volume roads.
This map also shows the proposed MDWs in relation to the land ownership, mine permit
and lease boundaries and other mine features.
- 7.
